Got plans for tomorrow night? Great! CANCEL THEM, because the West Philly Runners are hosting a race that will blow your freaking mind (and gut). Philadelphia, we introduce to you THE PIZZA MILE! Oh yes, 3 glorious 1/3-mile laps + 3 glorious slices of pizza. What on earth would possess someone to take on such a feat?
Glad you asked. Pasqually's, a regular post-run hangout for the Runners, was the scene of a burglary during the late hours on Saturday night. "Ken and his family have been nothing but warm and welcoming to our running group so we were devastated when we heard about this theft," explains Alon Abramson, the founder and organizer of the West Philly Runners. "We want the gang at Pasqually's to know that we value what they do in our community. We want them to feel welcome here and appreciated."
The benefit event will feature a departure from the West Philly Runners' usual Wednesday night runs. Those interested are invited to participate in THE FIRST EVER PHILLY PIZZA MILE RUN at 7:00pm this Wednesday October 5th (TOMORROW!). Runners will eat a slice of pizza before running a 1/3 mile lap around the block of 44th and Walnut. Runners will then complete another two sets of pizza eating and running for a total of three slices and three laps around the block. The Pizza Mile is a fun run and everyone is invited to run, walk, or simply come cheer on the participants by watching the race from anywhere along the block between 44th and walnut and 45th and Locust and join the runners for pizza and beer and the events end. (Anticipated finish of the race is 7:30.)
YES. YES. YES. THIS IS AMAZINGNESS.
