This one's for the procrastinators. The dawdlers. The slow-starters. The "it can wait 'till tomorrow" crowd. Your friends bugged you for weeks. You told them you were all trained up. You said you just had to register. You didn't. Now they're running a fun race and you're left bib-less. Well, my friend, I'm just like you. After a brutally hot summer my running hit a major slump, as did my yearning to run a race. Alas, the itch returned, so I went searching.
As it turns out, there's a whole bunch of great races in September that you can still run! Here's a few of my faves...
1. 2nd ANNUAL RUN GERMANTOWN 5k
The 2nd Annual Run Germantown 5k is taking place on Saturday, September 10 at Maplewood Mall. What's so cool about this race? Well, for one, it's hyper-local, and we're all about supporting local organizations. Also, ALL of the proceeds from this race will be divided between The One Less Foundation, The Historic Johnson House, and TrueWay Y.E.F., which all work to "educate, uplift, and strengthen local communities" according to the Run Germantown website. There's plenty of stuff for the kids too, including face painting, bouncy houses, and even a hula hoop contest!
Reasons to run: Local, supports the community, fun stuff for the kids

2. CONSHOHOCKEN FUN FEST 5k
If you're looking for another awesome local race (with a killer after party), check out the Conshohocken Funfest 5k on Saturday, September 17. Word on the street is that our good friends over at Conshy Running are involved this year, and that means two things are certain:
1) There's gonna be some fast feet on the pavement
2) There's gonna be beer involved somewhere throughout the day
Once the race finishes, the Conshohocken Funfest begins with local craft vendors, a beer garden (told ya there was beer involved), and a whole slew of super awesome stuff for the kids. Go ahead and add this one to your list.
Reasons to run: Local, beer, hills, after party
3. PINTS IN THE SQUARE CRAFT BREWFEST & 5k
Feel like breaking out of the city for a day/don't live in the city but still wanna run? Do you like craft beer? Howabout 5k's?? Well whaddaya know, looks like this might be your race. We wanted to give you non-city folk an alternative for Saturday, September 17, and what better option than a gorgeous race through the Ellis Preserve in Newtown Square for the Pints In The Square Craft Briefest & 5k. This one kicks off a little later (11am), and ends with a four hour beer fest. Yeah, that's a lot of beer. Pretty freakin' awesome.
Reasons to run: scenery, beer, more beer, still more beer
4. STARRY NIGHT 8.5k
So this race is one of our all-time favorites for a number of reasons. First, it raises money for pediatric brain tumor research. Second, it's FREE to run (but donations and fundraising make all of it possible... SO DO IT). Finally, the folks behind this race are some of the sweetest, most amazing people we have ever met. RUN215 put a team together last year, and yeah, it was amazing. If you're looking to make a difference in the lives of millions of children, run this race AND donate to the Starry Night 8.5k on Saturday, September 24th.
***Important note: if you feel the feels then bring some tissues, cause this one hits hard
Reasons to run: run for a cause, wonderful people, all the feels
5. THE RESCUE RUN 5k
Last but definitely not least on our list is The Rescue Run 5k, which is the main fundraiser for the amazingly awesome Monster Milers. (If you've ever seen some folks running with an adorable doggie wearing an orange "adopt me" vest, chances are you've seen The Milers in action.)
Not only is this local, for a great cause/utterly adorable, but this race is LEGIT. We're talking chip-timed, swagged-out legit. You'll run through the gorgeous Navy Yard with plenty of folks (and mutts) cheering you along the way. When the race is over, you'll be able to hang with SO. MANY. ADORABLE. DOGS. Oh, there will also be food trucks and refreshments post race BUT HAVE WE TALKED ABOUT ALL OF THE DOGS YET??? UGH. If you haven't read enough reasons to show up on Sunday, September 25th please review the words "so many adorable dogs" a few more times...
Reasons to run: local, scenery, waggy tails, slobber, omgeee dogs
